Wuhan Steamboat City

Last year when I was in Bangkok, I found a really nice innovative steamboat restaurant in MBK. Innovative? Yes, it is. Everyone pays a flat price (can't recall the charge but about S$10 I think) and you get to eat-all-you-can in 1hr and 10mins. Yeah, they time you! I am given a ticket when I enter the restaurant and the time is stamped on it. This ticket needs to be presented at the cashier when paying.

Not only that, the restaurant has a belting system (like sushi bar) with plates of raw food on it. It moves the food around the restaurant and I can pick anything I like and cook it in the individual pot in front of me. How nice is that? Unlike the usual steamboat buffet which I have to walk to and fro the counter to pick my food, this comes to me.

With great food selection and tasty soup, the S$10 is well worth-it. And the 'timing management' is an excellent idea as it stops hogging. By the time I leave, there is a steady stream of queue but they know they will definitely get a seat no more than 1hr 10mins.

PS: Except for some cabbage snatchers who sat in front of me. They keep taking the cabbages and I have difficulties getting my hands on them. Arghhhh, I want cabbages!!!

Anyway, back to Wuhan.

I saw an advert about this new restaurant named Wuhan Steamboat City which has the same belting system. It is also a flat fare (I pay $29.90 I think) buffet except they do not restrict how long you can eat (ie. they don't time you).

It is located in a quiet corner on the 4th level of The Central. Appear quiet on a Friday night.

Once sat and peek at the food, I know this is no way comparable to the one in Bangkok. The dinner starts when the server brought some cooked dishes to my table. I rejected all except a plate of roast duck (4 pieces). It yucks. I only took a bite and spit it out. No duck taste but mouthful of pepper.

I started to pick the ingredients for my steamboat and cook. Hmmm, soup is bland and food looks ‘ill’ before it’s cooked. Clams are not fresh, cabbages with dark spots, fish and meat look last week (I didn’t even dare touch).

Verdict – Not worth trying. I will not go back.

Belated Valentine's Day Dinner

Venue: Boxwood Cafe
Where: The Berkeley, Wilton Place, Knightsbridge, London
Who: 1 of Gordon Ramsay’s
Why: Belated Valentine’s Day dinner

I am LOVED. This was booked in advance and I didn’t know this is where I’m dining until I got here. 3rd surprise for this lovey occasion.

As soon as we arrive (1830hrs), we are informed there is a 2nd booking for our table but we’re always welcome to have our after-dinner coffee at the bar. Well, not surprised. It is one of GR’s so it must be packed all the time. He is a popular chef after all.

Since this is Gordon Ramsay’s, I am going to venture. I am going to order what I don’t usually fancy.

Main course

Grilled loin of yellow fin tuna with creamed parsnips and black pepper sauce 19.00

I don’t usually take tuna but this tastes exquisite. When it arrives I just dug into it hence the picture was taken while a piece of tuna is swimming in my mouth.

Dessert

Pineapple carpaccio with pineapple sorbet 8.00

Absolutely one of the tastiest I have ever had!!! The pineapple sorbet is unforgettable and the pineapple carpaccio is remarkably thin. It is lightly sweetened and the sweetness lingered in my mouth. I can give pineapple kisses after this.

Splendid ambience, excellent service, great food.

Blood Brothers - The Musical

Brief details
Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with tragic consequences. The incredible score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally-charged hit Tell Me It's Not True.

London. West End. Phoenix Theatre.

I am speechless. Why didn’t I watch this sooner? This is one of the best musical I have ever watched. Before, I have heard its existence and nothing more.

Oh, how it touches my heart and moves my tears. It is not just the storyline but the depression shown as well. If I was alone, I could have cried my heart out. I can still feel it churning. *sobbing*

When the show ends, the crowd disperses in a slow and orderly manner (no rush, unlike Singapore). I try to hide my tears, grab the arm and walk towards the tube while the cold wind continues to invade my body. The busker is playing Moon River while I walk past.

Imagine…

*Surrounded by old London achitecture*
*Melody of Moon River playing in background*
*Both hands holding strong arm*
*Gathering body warm*
*Strolling in cold dark night*
*Emotionally-charged*

Really romantic.
I did secretly wish the clock ticks slower.

Chanel in Harrods

See what I saw in the shop!!!

A bright PINK fabric chanel classic flap with white leather twirl in silver chain. Very excited when I see this. Very tempted to buy but I know it is simply not practical. I am a bag LOVER, not a bag CARER. I am anal about cleaniness but my bags are always smudge by some anonymous marks.

Ok ok, just looking... *slowly move my legs away from pinkie*

After 20mins of 'just looking', I achieved the following. MAD HAPPY!

Quick lunch at Debenhams

I know it looks simple but with both my favourites (potato and pumpkin mash with steam corn) on the same plate, I am contented.

Bangkok to London via Thai Airway

Have you been to the new Bangkok airport yet? This place is super MASSIVE. From one corner to the other takes approximately 30mins of brisk walking include walking on travolators too!!! By the time I reach my gate I am panting. PS: I swear I didn't stop to shop.

And there is this shop which bears the same name as me! PS: I really didn't shop hence I have no clue what is the shop selling.

I was assigned a lower deck seat when I check-in in Singapore. I had requested for the upper deck but the premier lounge girl told me she couldn't get it. Knowing myself, I know I will still try to change when I transit in Bangkok.

Effort for trying pay off and here is my seat on the upper deck. I am next to the emergency exit!!! Extra allowance for stretching.

Pretty purple seat with pink pillow and blanket has brightened up my flight. I am flying girly.

Check out the menu! So luxury. They gonna serve me duck foie gras as starter. I know it will taste like plane food but the idea of them serving this on flight is simply yummy.

Best airport smoking lounge

If you have been to one of those tiny smoking room, with more than 10 others puffing away in poor ventilate condition, walk out smelling like a chimney, you will truly vote this the best.

An outdoor cactus garden, armed with Singapore's favourite bar and view of aeroplanes taking off... Ain't it best?

more V Day surprise!

This came about 1030 in the morning. Typical 25 white roses but add on 5 calla lilies. This is a surprise indeed, sweet surprise. I didn't expect to receive flowers today as I am taking off to UK first thing tomorrow morning. What am I surposed to do with this now? I can't packed them into the luggage can I?

V Day 'Surprise'

The email arrives in my inbox midnight, sharp. It is a plaxo card with a clue where to find my V Day present. It is always delightful to get surprises.

Den den den dengggggggg... as soon as I see this paper bag, I know exactly what am I getting. Seriously, when I say I know doesn't mean I guess it's a bag or something that general. I meant I know EXACTLY which bag I am getting, down to the model, size and colour. Sooooooooo predictable.

And it comes with a V day card!!! This is pretty rare... I don't always get a card... especially this one has 11 handwritten (not printed) words on it and signed off with the date too!!! Despite the preditable present, this card is a great improvement. Yeppy... feel loved.

It's Complicated

Watching a movie always make me HAPPY. Gold class and comedy add charm to the no-brainer hobby.

My new Lenovo toy

I know how I always mumble about using a netbook. Oh, the screen is sOOOoo small. Oh, the max is 2Gb RAM, too slow for me. The hard disk carries nothing… blah blah blah...

Last Sunday (same lazy Sunday), I went to the shop with intention to get a newer version of my old trusted X60 Thinkpad. I am always a Thinkpad-user. It is so reliable and always easy to manipulate. Also affordable and arm with latest key features you find in other computers.

This tiny machine caught my eye as I stand by the entrance and a quick demo later, I am actually quite impressed. It kind of differs from the conventional netbook I once shunned.

- The 10.1-inch screen can be swivel 180 degrees and fold flat against its keyboard and runs in tablet mode.
- The touchscreen allows me to use the PC without the keyboard. I’m a touchscreen fan.
- 250Gb HDD (why is it called a netbook?)
- Affordable at $949 only
- Still light at 1.25kg with the battery

Ok, am I sold or what? I struggle a bit due to the RAM size and later decide to give this ‘touchscreen’ netbook a try so I went home with Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2t.

My 1st IdeaPad.

My 1st touchscreen PC.

My 1st netbook.

Daring.

Hired Car in Liverpool

No, we're not rich. Intend to hire a normal car but they gave us a Benz. Works well as a saloon car but not impress by its comfort.

The Fab4 store and White Feather exhibition

Part of my Liverpool trip.

I am not a big fan of Beatles as it is not my era. Nevertheless, they are legendary and I am fortunate and excited to visit the fab4 store. I brave the cold and snow and here I am...

Plenty of money and fame but lack the importance in life...

I don't think I can tell who is who, can you?

4 buildings away house the White Feather exhibition put up by his wife and son. It is all about John Lennon and his life.

These are lighted steps to go to the second level. Every step bears a different Beatle's song title. First level is like a tourist souvenier shop.

Entrance to exhibition

The concert tickets look like this in 1964. Not too bad huh? Better than Singapore cinema tickets in the 80's.

See what I found - The Penguin book on John Lennon. Can't flip of course. It is safe-kept in a arcrylic showcase.

Need to have this stamp to get in and out of stadium

Muse - Big Night Out 2010

There are four of us but..... drama....one has to leave for a sudden trip to Taiwan so rush off before the concert even starts!!!
Gosh, if only you see the crowd on the dance floor. Amazingly crowded and crazy.
